| The
FDC’s values are the product of the shared convictions of its founding
members. They represent the aspirations and desires of that which
we are, want to be, how we want to be and what we want to do with
the institution, personified by the founding members and their collaborators,
and these values ought to be shared as well by our partners.
Respect for the human person. The rights of the person—made up of
the person’s own values deriving from their culture, upbringing, beliefs
and religion; their emotions, life prospects and vision of the future—should
never be put into question in the process of FDC’s work. On the contrary,
they ought to be absorbed, taken on board, given value and transformed
in order that they may contribute in a positive way to compliance
with Human Rights in our country, and in particular in the communities
where FDC intervenes.
SOLIDARITY: This is an essential
value which guides the FDC in its day-to-day and overall way of being,
understood not as a relationship of dependency by some in relation
to others, but rather as a sharing of visions, resources, capacities
and knowledge for the achievement of a common objective, which is
the strengthening of Mozambican communities, families and individuals
for the eradication of poverty and the establishment of social justice
in Mozambique.
SOCIAL JUSTICE: Social justice
is not only that which is set out in law. It is a value which is intrinsic
in every individual and in every organization and one which should
be shared with others. It is the establishment of balanced social
relations between persons of different genders, cultures, ethnic origins,
religions, economic power, social status, etc., but which are united
by their human nature as social beings.
WORK: The state of things can
be changed only through work. Each of FDC’s members and collaborators
has work as their main banner, one which they should pass on to the
communities and partners. It is only with much work and dedication
that one may obtain the results that one is looking for. Without work,
resources, solidarity and social justice on their own will not generate
the desired results.
HONESTY: Which means to be able to
understand that the FDC’s raison d’être is the Mozambican
communities, and to answer to them regarding its action. For the FDC’s
collaborators and partners, it also means giving the maximum of one’s
capacities and knowledge in the fulfillment of the institution’s
mission, in an open and transparent manner and respecting ethical
and moral principles.
INITIATIVE: There are no preconceived
and perfect standards or formulas for combating poverty, mobilizing
and providing the communities with capacity, and strengthening the
partners. Each of FDC’s members and collaborators should be
constantly searching and should have the dynamism to creatively catalyze
the underprivileged communities, families and individuals to seek
solutions for their development. |
